Bliss: The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly
(Please excuse me for being temporarily indisposed the last few days due to lawyer-related stuff)
THE GOOD
The Police reuniting? Van Halen back with Diamond Dave (and no more of that Van Hagar crap)?
Excellent. I'm normally opposed to the "Gramps with Amps" scene (*coughcoughRollingStonescoughcough*), but even old-timey retread tours are still better than Nickelback.
THE BAD
So, anyone that has ever spent about 5 seconds on this blog knows I've been an enthusiastic fan of YouTube. Viacom, however, is not. Viacom is demanding YouTube take down all Viacom-related videos - Viacom's big playing chip is the MTV/VH1/CMT triumverate. Well - so the fuck what? Artists are now more willing to release videos directly to the web and be rather successful (see, e.g., Ok Go!), rather hope and pray that MTV plays their videos in that 5 minute slot at 3:00 a.m. that MTV plays videos now. Direct-to-web videos get affectionately copied:
When was the last time you saw that kind of popularity for anything MTV does? So, seriously, Viacom, keep your reruns of Road Rules and the slightly creepy Paris Hilton videos:
And don't let the web-video door hit you in the ass on your way out.
THE UGLY
Where cool people like Juicy A are busting their collective ass to rescue and place abandoned animals, the wonderful folks at PETA are 'adopting' animals from shelters, euthanizing them, dumping them in dumpsters behind a Piggly Wiggly - and getting away with it. In fact, PETA has killed 14,400 shelter animals since 1998 - in the Piggly Wiggly case, this included a cat and her two kittens, which had been "socialized, played with, and had their shots."
Thank goodness we keep them away from retirement homes.
So, in lieu of a more acidic rant, I'll just encourage everyone to donate money/time to rescue programs like Juicy A's and/or no-kill shelters, and not give PETA so much as a single penny.

Creepiest. Video. Ever.
Um, child molesting much? I mean, if he even looked like he was older than junior high age, it might work. But he doesn't, dude.
Holy Fucking Christ! That PETA story is disturbing. Sounds like crazies who want to blow up the world to end the human suffering they believe global warming will cause.
I do totally believe in animal rights (to a point), but I've never been into PETA. And that sounds particularly fucked up, dude.
Bravo! 'Specially re: The Bad and The Ugly. Both with videos and music, I don't think that the major labels et al have quite realized how outmoded their business model has become. They have been too busy trying to suppress new technology to develop a constructive use for it.
And PETA can suck my ass.
Can we compromise and let PETA euthanize Paris Hilton?
I put up a huge comment, but it didnt publish. Damn you PETA!
I basically was saying that i used to be a member of PETA, because they are a large supporter of greyhound adoption-- but they are 100% against greyhound racing altogether, and i am just against tracks that abuse/destroy the retired dogs. Some of our biggest financial supporters are actually the owners of racing kennels who *gasp* care about the dogs and want to see them go into good homes. PETA thinks i should be telling these people to stick their donations up their asses... which is why im no longer a member of PETA.
overall: greyhounds rule. adopt one or two today. :)
TWG - Yah, the "macking on 12 year olds" - creepy.
CBK - Exactly.
TWG - Agreed. Almost dictionary-like hypocrisy.
Osbick - Damn skippy - PETA will also be sucking my ass.
ACW - I think you're on to something there....
JuicyA - Agreed completely!
