And I Won't Waste My Time Fitting In . . .
I meant to do this post back when I started the blog (well, this incarnation, at least).
There's always some self-censorship in blogging, as I've talked about before. But I think it's fair to explain to the readership what blog-rules apply to this blog. In 10 rules or less, because this doesn't need to be any variety of epic post to explain these points . . .
1) No partners, clients, or experts. - As I've said before, these people are either the people who pay me, or people that are crucial to getting the firm paid, and, hence, me paid. Yes, yes, I was guilty of breaking the "no partner" rule on the old blog, but I've now done a better job of splitting that portion of my rage on another blog. So partners will occasionally get a random mention, but clients and experts are all but non-existent on the blog.
2) No active case talk. - That is, beyond something like "I have a case about a dogbite, and the dog is really cute." Specifically, I'm avoiding revealing any client confidences, work product, or case strategy. Cuz that could get me fired, sued, and disbarred.
3) No personally-identifiable information. - Cuz, seriously, I don't need any one I work with (or anyone in the Bar) finding this, with the end result being me getting dooced. This is especially key given my propensity to occasionally take a shot at opposing counsel - especially Nemesis counsel.
4) No photos of me. - In part, same reason as Number 3 (although I'm sure I could just dump a pic on another site and link that site), and, in other part, having an actual visual of me may skew the way some people read the blog. I prefer the nameless, faceless voice. *wink*
5) No personal life. - I'm usually sick. I'm usually miserable. And, above all, Bliss <------ fuckwit (as I pointed out to someone recently). Who wants to read about that? Everyone has their own issues, be it from some unrequited office mess, the passing of their father, bombs going off in the hometown, struggles with drug abuse, abusive ex-boyfriends stalking them, trying really hard but not getting into law school, divorce, coming to grips with a deep-rooted wanderlust, sorting out the whole sex vs. love mess, etc. Granted, I occasionally slide off into a political/religious rant, or grouse about being down, but for the most part, I want everyone coming to the blog to have a bit of a craic, and not read about all my shit going on.
6) No one else's personal life. - Because associates are relatively close to each other, we all know each other's skeletons. Hell, we've all met each others' skeletons, named them, and buy them Christmas presents. I'm not about to risk any wrath by spilling anything that I shouldn't. Want to know about Pregnant Associate's sex life? Go work at her firm. Only exception is if their personal life runs smack into mine, but then it would generally be precluded by Number 5, above.
7) No porn links. - Don't really want to be a porn clearing-house. I'll indirectly link stuff for giggles, but only rarely. It's the internet. Hell, type in pretty much anything, you can find some porn.
8) Comment as much as possible. - I know there's some hardcore, old-school bloggers that are fanatical about the blog author never commenting on their own post. But, I'm of the perspective that if someone takes the time to read my blog AND write a comment, the least I can do is comment back. If you don't get a comment, that means that a) I flaked it, or b) I'm actually shrugging in front of my computer, laughing and saying "Yah, I got nothing."
9) I only link people I actually read. - I avoided Blogrolling for the longest time, because I didn't want to have a 200+ sidebar of links, comprised largely of people I read only once, then completely forgot about. I still hand-code in those links to *force* me to only put up the ones I actually read, even if only once or twice a week. Most everyone is either a daily or every-other-day read.
10) Umm.... - I'm sure someone has picked up on a blog-tic I have that I can't think of right now. So write what you think is Number 10 as a comment below, and I'll either agree or disagree. *grin*
Editor's note - Yup. Still busy. Hence the midnight posts.

I'm on the midnight posting plan, too.
10. Ambiguously gay posts about classic cinema. ;-)
Hmm...I'll have to think about that one....
10) Obsessive compulison to complete lists.
Ooo, that's a good one - lots of lists, lots of memes. I'm a walking incarnation of High Fidelity.
Unless it's a list of the 5 things you miss from your childhood. ;-)
*Actually*, it's already drafted, and I'll probably post it tonight. It came out dreadfully serious and sad, so I need to revise it and make it funnier. The 5 things will stay the same, but the presentation will be a bit lighter. :)
Thanks. I was just kidding. I look forward to reading it. :-)
So, does this mean you find my personal life crap boring? I mean, you can tell me. I can take it. It is, to be quite honest.
CBK - Yeesh, now I have to deliver on the funny. ;)
Camogirl - Nah, your masturbation stories are WWWWAAAAYYYY better than mine would be. ;)
I like that you don't show a picture because then I can imagine whatever I want.
Your rules are good. I laughed my head off at one of your posts the other day (about dumping your credit card) and it's still making me smile. You couldn't write posts like that and feel comfortable about it without keeping your anonymity. I appreciate that.
Believe it or not I don't lay my whole life on the line either. We all have to draw it somewhere.
i usually follow 3, 4, 7, 8 and 9 on your list, who knows who will come after you if you misspell a word or use poor grammatical order.
I know alot of those comment whores, i just might be one myself.
anyway... nice place you got here, that office you worked for on the Navajo nation, it might the place where they recently found a hole in the side of the building and secret, confidential documents blowing off into the wind.
That wood pecker was pretty damn busy.
